  1. Why not use <script defer ...> instead of placing them before the </body> tag?
    There are some bugs in the implementation of this in IE 8 & 9 and differences in browser behavior. The current implementation is the most compatible.
  2. Why isn't Google Webmaster Tools verification working with Google Analytics?
    Webmaster Tools requires the Analytics tracking code to be in the <head> tags, so it will need to be blacklisted. Simply enter 'google-analytics' into the blacklist and the verification should work.
